The widening of the pavement on Station Hill

On 24 July work commenced on this project. Many of you will know that we have been pursuing this work for several years. What seemed straightforward at first, given the dangerously narrow pavement, turned out to be anything but. It was made possible by the owners of Gordon Lodge who were prepared to give up an area of their own land to enable the footpath to be widened by one metre. Time passed as the necessary legalities were delayed, as much as anything I think, due to the sheer number of different parties involved.

Whatever, it has now commenced and the boundary stone wall of Gordon Lodge has been demolished. It will be rebuilt further away from the road thus allowing the metre widening. The work should be completed by the first week in September. For that time there will continue to be temporary traffic lights on Station Hill. There will also be restrictions on parking on Parade to provide more vehicle passing spaces. If only it could be like that permanently!
