Town Council Forecourt
Chudleigh Town Council has obtained a grant to look at the possibility of putting a roof of some kind over the Town Hall forecourt. We think that this will improve footfall in town to the benefit to all retailers. It will encourage more market stall traders and more variety. Increasing the attractiveness of the market will encourage greater footfall and benefit shops, cafés etc. Community organisations will be able to use the forecourt area for publicity, events and fundraising. New businesses will be encouraged to start with a market stall with low startup and exit costs.
How the forecourt might appear
There are many possible designs. From fixed roofs to retractable canopies. Support posts on both sides to cantilever canopies supported on one side.
From this study to a canopy of some sort will be long haul. Funding must be sought, designs submitted to residents and any design must be approved by TDC planning, particularly the Listed Building Officer.
So, good idea or bad idea?
