New Bridge on Clay lane over the River Teign has suffered damage to the stone apron that protects its foundations. The extent of the damage was found to have increased following the significant storm events earlier in the year and urgent repairs are required to repair the damage to the apron and protect the foundations of the bridge. It is necessary to undertake these works during times of low flow in the Teign, before the winter, and the works must be completed before the 1st October as works in the Teign are not permitted after this date.
I am writing to inform you that the repairs works are planned to start on the 10th August 2020 for a period of approximately 3 weeks. In order to allow access for plants and materials and to allow the repairs works to be undertaken safely it is proposed to close Clay Lane at New Bridge for the duration of the works. The bridge will also be closed to pedestrians and cyclists.
Please find attached a plan shoring the proposed diversion route. In brief it is proposed to divert traffic via the A38 (between Drumbridges and Chudleigh) and the B3193 Clay Pits Road.
If you wish to have more information about the scheme of the proposed closure please do not hesitate to contact me.
