Re: Road closure dates on B3193 Teign Valley Road
We are currently planning our next phase of the works that will require road closures. This will enable the bottom row of soil nails to be drilled from the road above to stabilise the highway embankment above the River Teign. Unfortunately the size of machine required to drill the lower row of nails means that there isn’t enough space on the road to allow the machine to work and the highway to remain open.
The planned closures are between Monday 2nd-Thursday 5th October 2017, from 08:30-15:50.
These dates may need to be revised if there has been a period of persistent and heavy rain resulting in river levels rising; which will mean that we are unable to drill the lower row of nails as they will be underwater.
The road will require another closure later in the month, in order to prepare for the carriageway resurfacing. This is likely to take place on Monday 16th-Wednesday 18th October but will depend on weather conditions and the progress of soil nailing works.
You may be aware of traffic lights that have been erected just north of Spara Bridge (1km north of Teign Valley Golf Club). This is due to the collapse of a retaining wall and to ensure public safety. During the 2nd-5th October we will be undertaking emergency site investigation at this location, and will therefore require this section of road to be closed also.
Please see attached the location of closures, and the official diversion route. The official diversion will be on a similar class of road (B-road or above) and will be signed as usual. However please be aware that there are local roads which are suitable for lighter vehicles.
We would like to thank you in advance for your patience with any disruption these works may cause.
