The Town Council recently decided to set aside an area of the cemetery for green burials. Green, or natural, burials are becoming increasingly popular. They involve a much shallower burial depth of one metre and the use of biodegradable coffins or shrouds rather than a traditional coffin. The area we have set aside is at the top right hand side of the cemetery. The first step in the process of creating this area is to fence off the spoil heap and hut. This work was completed earlier this month. The next step will be to plant hedging to differentiate the area from the rest of the cemetery. This planting will take place in the autumn.
